Robot-Enhanced Language Learning for Children in Norwegian Day-Care Centers

In a case study, we transformed the existing learning program Language Shower, which is used in some Norwegian day-care centers Grorud district of Oslo municipality, into digital solution using an app for smartphones or tablets with option further enhancement presentation by NAO robot. The was tested several iterations and multiple over weeks. Measurements children’s progress across sessions indicated positive impact robot as compared to without situ observations interviews center staff confirmed solution’s many advantages, but also revealed important areas improvement. particular, speech recognition needs be more flexible robust, special measures have place handle children speaking simultaneously.
